L’arc en ciel

The Rainbow

Why is it that we look at rainbows

And we smile?

We call whoever is around

And point in wonder:

‘Look: a rainbow!’

To me it’s a closer touch of Divinity

Than the unicorn.

A reminder of beauty,

Of happy days.

A stop from mind-numbing chores,

A spark of hope, just enough of a reminder

It’s worthy to pull through.

So I’ll continue to show rainbows,

They’re everywhere:

The flaming sunset over the sea,

The yellow in a little girl’s dress whilst she’s jumping in a muddy puddle,

The blades of grass swaying in the meadow and singing with the wind,

The hydrangea bluer than the sky above,

The octogenarian’s hug after taking my dance class,

My son’s laughter.

Yes, l’arc en ciel, the rainbow.
