I Miss it All

You know what I really miss?

I miss your mom and the way she cooked her potatoes;

how she decorated the Christmas tree,

and how she always made sure I had a sweater when we left your house for dates.

I miss the way your brother laughed at you when you held my hand because you always managed to miss on the first attempt…

Because I was your first girlfriend and those things didn’t happen as naturally as you’d hoped.

I miss your sister and her need to talk to me about the new boy at school and how she would ask what I thought about her new shoes.

And your dad…

I miss that man’s warm hugs and open mind when it came to intense family discussions.

How unfortunate though,

there should be one thing about you that I miss the most but there isn’t because,

well,

I miss everything about you and them entirely the same.

I

miss

it

all.
