He’s Going to Kiss Me Tonight

I blame myself for thinking

that he’s going to come and kiss

me tonight, bringing a bouquet

of flowers and be ready to open

doors for me, carry me, lather me

in soapsuds, braid my hair, sleep

next to me, take me to a lake

and dress me up with lilies’

leaves and the moon

would witness our lovemaking,

and, sometime into the night,

he would pour wine

over my belly because I ended

up smiling so hard

that I began to tremble,

feeling pain all over

and tasting the tears

touching my lips

slowly realizing he

wasn’t coming

and had no idea

how strongly I felt for him.
